The eight details every invitation needs

Before choosing pretty words, make sure nothing practical is missing. Guests should never have to call to ask a basic question.

  • 1. Hosting family names, 2. Couple's names
  • 3. Function name, 4. Day and date, 5. Start time
  • 6. Venue name and address, 7. Map link, 8. RSVP contact

General shadi card wording (English)

Mr. & Mrs. Ahmed Raza request the honour of your presence at the wedding of their daughter Ayesha with Hamza, son of Mr. & Mrs. Kamran Ali. Your presence will make our happiness complete.

  • Nikah — Friday, 12 December, 5:00 pm, Jamia Masjid Al-Falah
  • Walima — Sunday, 14 December, 8:00 pm, Grand Marquee, Lahore
  • RSVP: 0339 2233348

Urdu wording lines you can copy

Urdu lines carry the warmth elders expect, and pair well with English details underneath.

Mehndi and dholki wording

Mehndi wording can be light and playful. Mention the dress colour theme if you have one, and be honest about the start time.

  • "Dholak, dance and mehndi — join us for Ayesha's mehndi"
  • Thursday, 11 December · 7:00 pm · Raza House lawn
  • Dress code: yellow and green

Nikah wording

Nikah invitations stay simple and respectful. Name the masjid or hall, keep the timing precise, and add the walima line if the two are on the same day.

  • "By the grace of Allah, the nikah ceremony of Ayesha and Hamza"
  • Include masjid name, area and a map link
  • State whether lunch or dinner follows

Walima wording

The walima is usually hosted by the groom's family, so their names lead. Mention the reception timing clearly — guests plan their evening around it.

  • "Mr. & Mrs. Kamran Ali invite you to the walima reception of their son Hamza and Ayesha"
  • Hall name, address, map link and parking note
  • RSVP so the caterer's headcount is right

Wording mistakes that cause chaos

Most of the questions guests ask come from four small omissions.

  • No map link for a hall nobody knows
  • "Evening" instead of an actual time
  • No RSVP contact, so nobody confirms
  • Same wording reused for a different function's date

Questions

Good to know

What should I write in a Pakistani wedding invitation card?

Open with a blessing, name the hosting families, then the couple, then each function with its date, day, timing and venue, and close with an RSVP contact. Keep the timings realistic so guests arrive when you actually start.

Should the invitation be in Urdu or English?

Both works best for most families — Urdu for the blessing and the elders, English for the details younger guests read quickly. We can set the two together in one invitation.

Whose names come first?

Traditionally the hosting family's parents are named as the ones inviting, followed by the couple. For a walima hosted by the groom's family, that family leads the wording.

Do you write the wording for us?

Yes. Send us the names and dates and we draft the wording for every function, then you approve or adjust it before anything goes out.
